Opening it the first time on macOS

macOS checks apps from outside the App Store on first launch. If you see “the developer cannot be verified” or “macOS cannot verify this app is free from malware”, don’t worry — the app is signed & notarized by Apple. To open it:

  1. Click Done — never “Move to Bin”.
  2. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security.
  3. Scroll down and click Open Anyway next to “dB music fingerprinter”, then confirm.

You only do this once — after that it opens like any other app.

acoustic fingerprinting

uses Chromaprint to generate a unique acoustic fingerprint for every audio file — MP3, FLAC, WAV, AIFF, M4A and more.

🔍

matches by sound, not name

fingerprints identify tracks by actual audio content. wrong filename, missing tags, renamed files — doesn't matter. if it sounds the same, it matches.

fast batch scanning

scans entire folders recursively. live progress with per-track results. stop any time. picks up the last folder on next launch.

📦

clean json output

saves fingerprints.json with path, fingerprint, duration, title and artist per track. ready to load into traktor history fixer.

🔍

finds broken files

any file that will not decode is flagged as it scans - corrupt MP3s, truncated downloads, bad rips. export the list as CSV, or as an M3U8 + Traktor NML playlist you can open straight in Traktor.

🔧

repairs them, losslessly

one click rebuilds MP3s with a corrupt header so they play and fingerprint again - a byte-exact copy of the audio, no re-encode, no quality loss. originals are never touched; repairs go to a _repaired folder.

🔗

powers THF matching

load the JSON into traktor history fixer and it uses fingerprints as the primary matching signal — far more accurate than filename or duration alone.

zero dependencies

standalone macOS .app. fpcalc is bundled. no Python, no Terminal, no homebrew required. download and run.

how you use it
1

select folder

click Browse and select your music folder. the app counts all audio files and shows you what it found.

2

scan

click Start Scan. in the mean time, be productive — it takes a while for large collections.

3

save

when done — click Save JSON to save your fingerprints.json. load it into THF for accurate matching.
